In the midst of the Christmas rush at a New York department store, a young stage designer takes a temporary job selling dolls. Dissatisfied with her mundane routine and ambivalent about her relationship with an earnest young painter, she drifts through the days, yearning for something more. When she encounters an alluring, older woman across the crowded toy department, an immediate and electric connection is formed—one that will upend both their lives.
What begins as a fleeting glance leads to a secretive affair, and soon the two women embark on a cross-country road trip that becomes a journey of self-discovery and passionate awakening. But the constraints of 1950s society, and the older woman’s impending divorce and custody battle, threaten to destroy their fragile happiness.
