Product Overview
On Dartmoor during the War of 1812, an English farmer struggles to make a living from harsh ground while his daughter comes of age amid family tensions, old secrets, and social expectations. Nearby, thousands of American prisoners are confined at Princetown, and one determined young captive becomes part of her world after a dangerous escape brings him to the farm.
His arrival unsettles loyalties already complicated by a devoted groom, a persistent suitor, and a missing family heirloom whose fate has never been settled. Across snowbound moors, prison tunnels, farms, and village inns, private hopes become entangled with national hatred and questions of class, duty, and freedom. Set against the stark beauty of Dartmoor, this historical romance combines prison-break adventure with a close study of rural life and changing affections, as people on opposite sides of a war discover that personal bonds do not always obey the boundaries drawn by politics, property, or birth.
