Robert Browning (1812-1889) was an English poet and playwright whose mastery of dramatic verse, especially dramatic monologues, made him one of the foremost Victorian poets. Ferishtah's Fancies is narrated by Browning in the thinly disguised persona of the Persian soothsayer Ferishtah, who tells several parables (the titular "fancies") to students that illustrate his/Browning's opinions on a number of religious and moral topics. 1887's Parleyings with Certain People of Importance In Their Day, presented Browning, speaking in his own voice, engaging in a series of dialogues with long-forgotten figures of literary, artistic, and philosophic history. Asolando (1889) was published on the day of Browning's death. Helen A. Clarke also contributed introductions and notes. This final volume of the collection contains an index of first lines and an index of titles.
