Originally published anonymously, by combining the first letter in each of the 24 short stories in The Master of Mystery you get: "The Author is Gelett Burgess." Frank Gelett Burgess (1866-1951) was an artist, art critic, poet, author, and humorist. Astrogon Kerby was an Armenian con-man who pretended to be a palmist and fortune teller, but was drawn into solving crimes and using his skills as a detective.
