Theodore Sturgeon was an American science fiction author. He sold his first story in 1938 to the newspaper McClure's Syndicate, which bought much of his early work; his first genre appearance was "Ether Breather" in Astounding Science Fiction a year later. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, his stories appeared in genre science fiction magazines as well as general-interest publications such as Argosy Magazine. His novels include MORE THAN HUMAN, THE DREAMING JEWELS, and I, LIBERTINE.

Sturgeon also wrote the screenplays for the STAR TREK episodes "Shore Leave" and "Amok Time." His 1944 novella, "KillDozer", was the inspiration for the 1970s made-for-TV movie, a Marvel comic book, and alternative rock band of the same name.

The two audioplays in this set originally appeared on NBC's classic science fiction anthology series, X MINUS ONE. "Mr. Costello, Hero," aired July 3, 1956. "The Stars Are the Styx" aired July 24, 1956.
