Jacques Heath Futrelle (1875-1912) was an American mystery writer, whose books featured his sleuth Professor Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen, aka "The Thinking Machine." He died on board the RMS Titanic, and "My Lady's Garter" was published posthumously.
